  4. Microsoft appreciates your interest in the Microsoft(R) Windows
  5. NT(TM) NetWare(R) Workstation Compatible Service (NWCS) product.  We
  6. are pleased to announce that in response to customer demand, we are
  7. making Beta 2 software publicly available to all interested parties
  8. in this forum.  We hope this product will demonstrate our commitment
  9. to you to make Windows NT a great addition to your NetWare networks.

  11. Microsoft Windows NT NWCS is a stable product which will connect you
  12. to file and print services on NetWare servers.  Beta 2 also includes
  13. support for most commonly used NetWare utilities, some NetWare-aware
  14. applications and the new file gateway functionality.

  16. Please see download area Section 14 for x86, MIPS and DEC Alpha AXP 
  17. platform availability.  The Beta software is also available on the 
  18. Internet.  FTP to ftp.microsoft.com.  Login as Anonymous and please use 
  19. your email address as your password.  Location is 
  20. \advsys\winnt\sup-ed\nwcs.

  22. Before downloading the Beta software, please take a moment to complete
  23. the customer questionnaire. SURVEY.WRI is a questionnaire designed  
  24. to help us better meet your workplace environment needs.

  26. Also, please note this Beta software is subject to the terms and 
  27. conditions of the license agreement LICENS.WRI.  Please review this 
  28. document prior to installing the software.

  31. software during the program.

  38. NWCSREAD.TXT is located on Disk 1 of the NWCS install media. 
  39. Please review this information for important details before 
  40. installing the software.

  42. Support specifics as well as vital product information can be found
  43. in SUPORT.WRI.  We suggest you print this document to have on hand
  44. during the program.  Please read this entire document.

  46. Setup and installation information as well as important details on
  47. how to use and run the service is documented in the "NetWare 
  48. Workstation Compatible Service" document as INSTAL.WRI.

  50. As a helpful guideline, we have provided a report template we are
  51. asking customers to use to produce problem or bug reports.  Please
  52. use NWCBUG.TXT to report specific steps and detailed information
  53. about any problem incidents encountered.  Please note "Customer
  54. Problem Reports" for additional information in the SUPORT.WRI
  55. document.

  57. Before You Begin
  58. ===============
  59. You must first install the Microsoft Windows NT and Windows NT
  60. Advanced Server Service Pack 1 before installing the Microsoft
  61. NetWare Workstation Compatible Service software. 
  62.  
  63. You may obtain the U.S. Version of Service Pack 1 electronically from
  64. the following locations. 
  65.  
  66. Internet:  FTP to ftp.microsoft.com.  Login as Anonymous and please
  67. use your email address as your password.  Service Pack 1 can be found
  68. in \advsys\winnt\sup-ed\fixes\ussp1. 
  69.  
  70. CompuServe:  Connect via Compuserve and go to the WINNT Forum (see
  71. "CompuServe Support" details below) where Service Pack 1 can be
  72. found.  
  73.  
  74. You may also obtain the Microsoft Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced
  75. Server (U.S. Version) Service Pack 1 (update to build 528: CSD002) in
  76. the United States, by calling Microsoft Sales and Service at (800)
  77. 426-9400.  The Service Pack is available for $14.95 including
  78. shipping and handling.  In Canada, please call (800) 563-9048.  
  79. Outside the United States and Canada, please contact your local
  80. Microsoft Subsidiary.  If you are utilizing a localized installation
  81. of Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server, your system will require
  82. a localized version of Service Pack 1.  Please contact your local
  83. Microsoft Subsidiary for additional information concerning localized
  84. versions of the Service Pack.

  86. Installing Service Pack 1 is quickly and easily accomplished and will
  87. maintain previous system settings and user groups.  Simply insert
  88. Disk 1 and at the Windows NT command prompt, execute UPDATE.EXE from
  89. the floppy disk.  The Setup program will be invoked to guide you
  90. through the update procedure, prompting for each disk until the
  91. update is complete.  This entire process will take approximately 5 
  92. minutes.

  94. If you require a CD-ROM update for MIPS systems, please contact
  95. Microsoft Sales and Service as specified above.  DEC Alpha AXP
  96. systems do not require this update and should already be running the
  97. Alpha AXP retail release.  Please note README.TXT on Disk 1 of
  98. Service Pack 1 for further information.
